Colorimetry

This website assumes your monitor is sRGB.

Computation

We use the Python package Colour Science to compute color difference. The conversion chain is followin:

HEX color representation is converted to RGB colourspace.

Then from sRGB colourspace to CIE XYZ tristimulus values

Then from CIE XYZ tristimulus values to CIE L*a*b* colourspace.

We then compute the color difference for each permutation and select the closest match.

Data Source

Citadel

Citadel color range information extracted from https://www.warhammer.com/ shop. It's still unclear what colorspace those images are (see "doubt" section).

Vallejo

Vallejo Model Color range information are extracted from images of Vallejo website. Those images have embedded color space information: sRGB IEC61966-2.1, making us confident in their color consistency.

Doubt

Depicts a global trend that seems correct in reported color differences. Some of them are controversial. For example, Vallejo Model Color Flat Yellow (70.953) is expected to be very close from Citadel's Averland Sunset, with a delta E of 1.89. Yet, having them both, they are not that close.

My own alternatives

I don't have paints from many different brands, but here are my personal, subjective, alternatives which I can confidently recommend:
